The project is located in Little Haiti, Miami. an area that is currently seen as probably the nation’s first example of gentrification. The project aims to create a dynamic space that engages both the local community and visitors, focusing on the local graffiti culture to advocate for local culture while opposing gentrification. The project’s objective is to utilize locally sourced waste fabric and repurpose it into architectural elements that foster interaction. The fabric transformed into the suspended roof structure, gradually cascading into smaller draping pieces that encourage people to engage in graffiti art at the front of the building. The project incorporates massive steel trusses that give the impression of the structure “floating,” resulting in an open-ground plan that encourages people to interact with the draping fabric. The strategic placement of these trusses creates a theatrical impact, framing the graffiti park, stage, outdoor theater, and dance studio in the front view.
